THE SCULPTOR VYTAUTAS MAČIUIKA

Vytautas MAČIUIKA, a Lithuanian sculptor-monumentalist and a poet, was born in 1930 in Kaunas, Lithuania. In 1964 he graduated from the State Institute of Art in Vilnius. His sculptural work is carried out largely in stone and in bronze. Since graduation he has executed a total of fifty three monumental, decorative, and portrait sculptures, completing twenty six of them in granite. In 1971 an exposition of his work was held in Vilnius. His monuments and decorative sculptures have been erected in Riga, Vilnius, Kaunas, Palanga, and other locations. His poems have appeared in numerous periodicals of contemporary Lithuania. A collection of his poetry entitled Negludinti akmenys (Unpolished Stones) has been published in 1965, and a second one entitled Ritmai (Rhythms) in 1978. The photographs on the following pages provide a sampler of his art.
