CURRENT ART BY ARVYDAS ALGMINAS

Arvydas Algminas was born in Lithuania and emigrated to the United States after World War II. He is a graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago and currently teaches figure drawing and oil painting at this traditionally oriented commercial and fine arts college. Algminas started his career in art as a commercial artist. Now, in addition to his teaching duties, he devotes his time to painting a variety of subjects in a realistic-impressionistic manner. He has had one-man shows in the United States and Canada and was featured in The American Artist magazine. Algminas gives lectures and demonstrations on art and juries art shows. His work is owned by collectors in North America and Europe. He lives in a Chicago suburb.

The paintings illustrating this issue of Lituanus reflect his interest in naturalistic subject matter and his respect for the lost life of the American Southwest. The theme of primitive man in his natural surroundings can be very appealing to many of today's urban dwellers.
