Baltische Bibliographic. Schriftum über Estland, Lettland, Litauen 1996,

mit Nachträgen. Zusammengestellt von Paul Kaegbein. Verlag Herder Institut Marburg, 1997. 354 pages. Paperback.

('Baltic Bibliography. Writings about Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Compiled by Paul Kaegheim. Herder Institut Marburg, 1997. 354 pages. Paperback.')

There is no better bibliography for the Baltic countries than this continuing German publication, done with brilliant exactness and thoroughness.

The main part is the listing of all available items, Nos. 1-2449. (pages 1-202); then comes the List of Authors (pp. 203-244); then we find the Title Index (pp. 245-302); Index of persons (pp. 308-317), Geographical Index (pp. 318-333), and the Topic Index (Sachenregister) (pp. 335-354).

In other words, with those five lists, or indexes, one can easily find the item needed.

All the entries of items in Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian are translated into German. However, entries in English and French are not given in German.

Indeed, it's a wonderful bibliography for 1996. Naturally, I did not read all these 354 pages (and the XVIII introductory pages), but the entries I read were all correct - not even any diacritics missing.

Any scholar working on any problems of the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) will have to consult this excellent bibliography. That will save her/him a great amount of time.
